More About Dr. Black

Dr. Black (she/her) is alumnus of Alliant International University, San Diego, where she earned her doctorate in clinical psychology with a specialization in integrative psychology. She is a licensed clinical psychologist and board certified in biofeedback (BCB) and neurofeedback (BCN) with additional specialty in ketamine assisted psychotherapy.

She completed her post-doctoral training at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). She is one of UCSD’s Frontiers of Innovation Scholars Program (FISP) grantees, which offered grant support for her pioneering work to develop and implement neurofeedback services into UCSD Health’s family medicine program.

Continuing her work at UCSD, she was lead therapist for biofeedback and neurofeedback services and psychologist for UCSD Health’s sports medicine concussion clinic.

Her core practice is integrative, whole person health body, mind, spirit, and community. She is part neuroscientist and part alternative medicine. She recognizes the importance of evidence based practice, and often practices through that lens, but understands that there is wisdom in traditional medicine and that practicing them together can create synergy.

Dr. Black’s therapeutic approach focuses on the therapeutic relationship. She is a very warm and accepting individual but won’t hesitate to help motivate change when needed. She celebrates all backgrounds, cultures, and spiritual perspectives. She takes special care not to assume what is “right” for any individual, instead she works with the patient and patient’s care team to collaboratively decide what work can be done together to increase thriving.

In addition to her work as a therapist, Dr. Black teaches at a community college and mentors psychology interns on their way to licensure.

Dr. Black works with her co-therapist, Lexi, to help in the healing process (see profile below).

In her spare time you will find her gardening, hiking, and having fun with Lexi.

Dr. Annie Karamanukyan. Psy.D.

Dr. Karamanukyan (she/her) is one of Silvi Integrative Health’s clinical associates supervised by Dr. Black. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University, San Diego.

Throughout her training she gained extensive training in health and existential psychology working with individuals who have varying severities of medical and terminal illnesses. Her previous experiences has helped develop her patient centered approach using Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy, EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, and Systems theory.

Dr. Karamanukyan has a collaborative style to therapy. One in which she encourages patients to lead their healing journey while she remains curious and open, being mindful of her patient’s diverse cultural experiences. Though she takes a supportive role, she empowers her patients to make changes when necessary. Dr. Karamanukyan also maintains collaborative relationships with her patient’s multidisciplinary team to optimize and advocate for their care and positive therapeutic outcomes.

In her spare time, she enjoys playing with her dog Lola, experimenting with new recipes, spending time at the beach, and exploring the local farmers markets.

Dr. Black is easy to work with. When put in a position of leading a project, she has an incredible amount of follow-through, and approaches the task with razor focus. I have seen her lead an interdisciplinary team of health professionals with varying degrees of qualifications, some above her, some below her, and pull it off with finesse.

Brad Thompson, MA

Brad is one of Silvi Integrative Heath’s clinical associates supervised by Dr. Black. Brad is currently in his last year of schooling to obtain his Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, with an emphasis in Integrative Psychology.

Brad has extensive training in neurofeedback, biofeedback, and traditional psychotherapy with a particular interest in ketamine assisted psychotherapy, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral modalities. He approaches each person holistically and enjoys combining alternative and traditional ways of doing therapy.

Brad has prior experience in the medical field working as an EMT in emergency settings where he witnessed the importance of viewing physical and psychological health as being on in the same. He has gained clinical experience in a pre-doctoral setting at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) which fostered his knowledge in neurofeedback, biofeedback, and integrative psychology techniques within a medical setting.

His core practice focuses on the mind-body connection. Brad believes in the intrinsic healing instinct within each individual and only wishes to discover it alongside each person he serves.

In his free time, Brad will be seen playing fetch with his dog at the park, backpacking some trails in hopes to find the perfect lake, watching football on lazy Sunday afternoon, or trying not to fall while snowboarding.
